I liked the film, especially when the main character grew to enjoy the people from the south. The movie played with the emotions of the northern Italians by bringing in stereotypes about the southern Italians they believed to be true. I thought it was interesting how afraid Alberto was when he encountered the southerners. It made me think about the stereotypes here in the U.S. that people are raised to believe: southerners are hicks and northerners have class. The same is true for Italy, the northerners believe they have class and the southerners are hicks.
I was pleased by the ending when Alberto and his wife, along with their son, were sad to leave the south and move to Milan because it proved how silly stereotypes are and what people are missing out on when they believe these stereotypes. If I was Italian, I would not take offense to the film because it more played silly to how afraid southerners are and set in their ways they are, but can change. I found this comedy to be funny and lighthearted and would watch again.
