Typically, male family members appreciate and embrace the Mafia's ways as they mature, supporting it while remaining loyal to the family structure. Peppino, however, would likely have followed this path if not for his uncle's death, a pivotal moment leading him to question and reject the perceived goodness of the Mafia.
What truly captivated me was Peppino's relationship with his father. Despite their unconditional love, their conflicting values and ties to the Mafia drove them apart. His father, molded by the Mafia, sought success and a different life for his family. Yet, his unwavering commitment to family clashed with the Mafia's plans, leading to his tragic end.
The exploration of family dynamics within the Mafia reached a poignant climax at the funeral. Only the father's cousins, residing in the United States, stayed, revealing the stark contrast from the crowded gatherings for the father and uncle's deaths. The cousins used this imagery to underscore the importance of true family. However, the irony unfolded when the camera shifted to a crowd, and the cousins vanished, illustrating that, in the Mafia, familial bonds swiftly dissolve when someone challenges its interests.
