La Prima cosa bella by Joe Marzano

Bruno is a character that has a lot of self development throughout the story. In the opening scene he is very weak after having a flashback of his childhood after his mom won the award for prettiest mom in the town. This set the stage for what was to come with Bruno. Throughout the story the flashbacks all got worse but Bruno's reaction to them got less bad. I really noticed this when Bruno was reminiscing about all of the boys in the locker room at his school talking about getting with her and he didn't give them any physical reaction, he just made a comment to the one about his girlfriend. That development coincides with Bruno's drug development throughout the story. At the beginning of the story Bruno is admitting to be a part time junkie. He proceeds to keep searching for drugs and has no luck finding any. This is resolved with a happy ending for Bruno when he finally gets his hands on some drugs and he turns them down to go for a swim with his girlfriend. This moment was also very big for Bruno because at the beginning of the story he told his girlfriend that he couldn't be with her anymore after he had the flashback of his mom being the prettiest lady and his dad being average. Coming to an ending where he feels that he deserves his girlfriend shows a lot of development.

Death and illness are a major theme in this movie. It is a common thing in a lot of movies and life in general with how death can bring people together but also free people of bad pasts that they were holding onto. Anna being sick was the only thing that saved Bruno and Valeria's relationship together. I think that it was pretty clear that without their mother being sick they would have never talked together. I also believe that if Anna never died, Bruno would have never quit drugs.
