Momenti di Transcurabile Felicita - Sam Epstein

Overall I enjoyed the film. The topic of "life is short" can be a pretty generic one for movies to tackle, but I think that the film does a good job with it. Simply the fact that it's an Italian film, which showcases Italian behaviors or, in this case, how Italians might approach death, makes the film more engaging for me. I feel I always can take away something about Italians and Italian culture by watching Italian movies. This film also has a slightly different theme than just "life is short, make sure you appreciate family". I think instead, the theme is more so "live in the moment and be conscious of what matters, but don't get so caught up in wanting to be in the moment that you stop enjoying life". One of the moments in the film that stood out to me the most was from the old man from heaven when he was speaking to Paolo's wife about how she feels about his death. He basically says that it's normal to feel guilty and feel like you should have spent more time with him, but that you would never want to live every day like you have for the past hour. This basically means that it's good to be appreciative of the current moment, but not to lose what life is itself while trying to be present. Another point in the film that relates to this main idea of the film were the scenes where Paolo was waiting for the train to pass and he was very impatient. These moments reminded me not to worry too much about things I cannot control, because in these moments all Paolo could do was just enjoy himself and not worry, as I'm sure I could also be doing more of in my life. I think I will rewatch this film at some point in my life, maybe far into the future with my family/kids. I think the film is a good reminder to us all that life is short, but to also enjoy the little moments in life, which is a reminder that we can all use from time to time.
